Review: The Valley of the Dry Bones by Jerry B. Jenkins

This story is 17 years into the future of the California drought.  California has become a wasteland and only a few people reside in the state.  The main character is Zeke a follower of Jesus.

I was not able to finish this book, because I found it to be offensive.  As a Christian I was offended by having the main character tell another that their faith is wrong, or the way they worship Jesus is wrong. I didn't like the other characters who were of minority were saved by a white character.  I am not saying this was intentional, however it rubbed me the wrong way.  After 50% of the book, I could no longer continue to read.  Not only that I was offended but also the story was extremely slow and I didn't find the characters believable.

I was disappointed in this book, because I had enjoyed the Left Behind  series by this author.
I gave this book 1/5 stars

I received this book from NetGalley in turn for an honest review.

Review: The Rejected Writers' Book Club by Suzanne Kelman

4.5/5 stars

The Rejected Writers' Book Club is about Librarian Janet Johnson who is dragged to a club for rejected writers who celebrate the rejection letters they get from publishers.  She finds herself caught up in the drama of bad news that falls upon this group.  She is forced on a road trip with these women and craziness and fun ensues.

This novel is witty; the characters are well created.  They each have their quirks that make them lovable.  You will find yourself laughing and cheering for these characters.

If you like road trips and interesting characters that will make you laugh, I would suggest picking up this book.  An excellent read, especially for summer.

Review:It's too late to die young by Gary R Hope

3/5 stars

This book is about a man who is dying of cancer.  He is looking back on his life and is going over all of the bad things he has done in his life.

I had a hard time getting into this book.  I had no sympathy for him; I found him a unlikable and a jerk. It felt like just a play by play of all the wrongs he had done, with no remorse for them.  It wasn't until maybe the last two chapters that the story seems to have a point to it, but it is still a weak one.

I gave it 3/5 stars because the last several chapters saved the book. I was originally going to give it a 2/5 but the ending did make up for the rest of the book.  It gave the story a feeling of meaning.  Although it did feel a bit rushed.

I received this book from NetGalley for review.
